February 2010 – The Canadian Oil Heat Association (COHA) is pleased to announce the launch of its’ industry’s first national certification initiative.  The designation will be offered to COHA members only.  The COHA GreenTECH Certified initiative will enable oilheat technicians, installers, frontline staff and industry leaders, obtain a professional designation on a voluntary basis.  In response to growing concerns about escalating energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions, COHA has developed a continuing education program that will provide our members with up-to-date knowledge and skills required to serve today’s energy-conscious customers.

The COHA GreenTECH Certified designation is a national skills enhancement program. It does not replace jurisdictional authority, but offers continuing education opportunities to enhance and sharpen the technical skills of our technicians and installers.

We must strive to be recognized as a credible  ”energy partner” by meeting our customers’ requests for greener and more efficient heating systems.  Technological advancements, enforcement of more stringent regulations, and changing consumer demands are leading the way toward continuous education.  We must help our customers achieve their energy conservation goals by promoting the most advanced oil-fired appliances and fuel storage solutions available on the market.  The COHA GreenTECH Certified initiative will produce individuals dedicated to excellence and innovation in their field.  The program will also help in our efforts to build long-term relationships with federal, provincial and municipal regulators, realtors, homebuilders, insurers, and the rest of the HVAC industry.  The decision to embark upon a nationally recognized designation is an important move toward a viable and vibrant future for our industry.

COHA members will be offered a selection of courses covering a variety of technical areas to address today’s oilheat customers’ demands and expectations.  COHA members can earn Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) needed to achieve the COHA GreenTECH Certified designation by completing on-line training modules at www.oilheat.ca or by attending various COHA GreenTECH approved webinars and seminars offered by COHA regional chapters or training partners.  CEU’s will help ensure the best technical performance throughout the oilheat industry, a benefit to all.  Non-members are encouraged to participate in COHA advanced technical training sessions, but will not be awarded the COHA GreenTECH Certified designation.

Why should you and your staff become COHA GreenTECH Certified professionals?  Because this new designation will assist your company and our industry to become a dynamic, knowledgeable, environmentally progressive energy provider.  Consumers’ demand for cleaner, safer and energy-efficient heating is here to stay.  The COHA GreenTECH Certified designation will help COHA members grow their business while promoting good environmental stewardship and energy efficiency.

COHA invites you to visit www.oilheat.ca.  The site provides program details pertaining to registration, updates and all current on-line training modules.  The site will also house a database of all COHA GreenTECH Certified participants and their level of achievement.

It’s Your Future. Be There.
